I went to High Standard but no help. There was a problem with the auto's blowing up for a period of time and there was some injuries that occured from that also. Serial numbers began appearing on the High Standard shotguns during mid to late I found this post concerning the patent to be interesting: viewtopic. My 1st gun was a Sears 16 Ga. My now deceased brother bought it for me when I was 15 years old. Through a bit of research I determined that it was a High Standard.
Even though it only had 1 action bar, it was by far the slickest pump gun I have ever owned. It would indeed open by gravity alone when the bolt release was pushed.
I wish I hadn't sold it. I don't know how important having dual action bars is. I only know of one person who ever had trouble breaking action bars on a single action bar gun. That was on Ithaca model 37s. This guy who was sort of an pound gorilla broke action bars on his two model 37s regularly shooting skeet. One was a 12 and the other was a He quit using them because of this action bar breakage. I assume others did break because most guns went to dual bars, but as I said this one is the only one I ever heard of.
On dual action bars, I know the Ithaca model 51 automatic broke them pretty regular, and none are available now, all the spares having been used up.
Break one now and you have a welding job before you are shooting again. Maybe action bars breaking is an Ithaca thing. It looks like you could pretty easily make some of the action bars on these high standards if you had to. Hi guys, new to the forum. I tried reshaping the hand spring, and I was able to get it to put tension on the hand, but the spring kept popping out of the groove on the hand when the hand rotated fore and aft.
I think part of the issue is that the hand floats around too much laterally. The hand has a hole at the bottom through which the hammer safety stop is inserted. This is the 'axle' that the hand rides upon as it rotates forward and back.
The problem is that the hand is free to move laterally on this axle, and when it floats inboard, the hand spring loses its grip on the outside of the hand and the spring pops out of the groove.
